Pine Grove Campground is located 30 miles north of Bishop in the Eastern Sierra.  From Tom's Place, drive south on Rock Creek Road 7.5 miles.  This is a small and quiet campground just below Rock Creek Lake with only 10 campsites.  

Pine Grove Campground has one walk-in site with a beautiful view of Rock Creek.  All other sites are just a short walk from the creek.  The campsites are moderate in size and will fit at least two tents each.  The camp road and parking spurs are gravel but kept up nicely.  Each site is well-shaded by Jeffrey Pine.

The campground is first-come, first-served and absolutely beautiful so it fills up fast.  If you get a site, take full advantage of the fishing and hiking in the area.  The campground has two flush toilets and a running sink (always a bonus).  There are no showers available at the campground though.  You can head over to Rock Creek Lodge ($5 per person) or Tom's Place which both offer showers to campers.  

Up the road from the camp is Rock Creek Lake which allows boating (speeding here is 5 mph), fishing (planted Alpers seem to be the catch) and swimming (the best spot is at the day-use area at the southeastern end of the lake).  Rock Creek Lodge has a nice overview of the hiking trails in the area.  You can also check out Alltrails for more challenging hikes leading into John Muir Wilderness, Sierra National Forest and Inyo National Forest.

What to bring: 

• All of your favorite outdoor adventure gear.  There's a 21-day maximum stay at this camp which gives you time to do it all. 
• A hammock.
