California Camping Class in Review

California Camping Class in Review

Ryan and I recently hosted two California Camping Classes at REI.  This year all levels of campers were present - beginner, well-seasoned and those that hadn't been in years but were looking to get back into it.  It was encouraging for Ryan and I to see how our experiences and resources created on Campgrounds 360 could combine for a power pack of information for all levels of campers.

For those of you that weren't able to make it (and those that forgot to take notes), we have compiled a list of campgrounds discussed in these classes.  As our website and camping experiences expand beyond California, this class is going to get even better!  Make sure to come out next year for our REI California (and beyond) Camping classes!

Albee Creek (Humboldt Redwoods SP) - recommended for small trailer and tent.  Sites still available for the summer.
Surfwood (MacKerricher SP) - Some sites available in summer.

Van Damme (Van Damme SP) - RV and tent sites available for spring break and summer.
Gualala Point (Sonoma County Regional Parks) - RV and tent still available for summer!
Gerstle Cove (Salt Point SP) - RV and tent sites still available for summer!
Hat Creek, Potato Patch, Yellow Creek (Lassen National Forest) - The first two are first-come, first-served for tent and RV campers.  Yellow Creek is a PG&E campground, reservations open on April 6.
Summit Lake North or South, Butte Lake and Juniper Lake (Lassen Volcanic National Park) - Reservations available for RV and tent camping this summer.

Gold Lake (Plumas National Forest) - Check out the entire Gold Lake Hwy for some fantastic first-come, first-served campgrounds.
China Flat (El Dorado National Forest) - RV and tent sites available for first-come, first-served campers.
Silver Fork (El Dorado National Forest) - RV and tent sites available for first-come, first-served campers.
Lodgepole (Tahoe National Forest) - owned & operated by PG&E, reservations open up on April 6th for RV and tent campers.
Tamarack Flat and Yosemite Creek (Yosemite National Park) - both are first-come, first-served so the best advice is try to go on a Tuesday to get a site.
Big Bend (Inyo National Forest) - first-come, first-served for RV and tent campers. Eastern gateway to Yosemite National Park at Tioga Pass.
Rock Creek Lake (Inyo National Forest) - This campground is for tent campers and is first-come, first-served.

Whew!  There is so much out there ready for you to explore!
